IAD A2A Electrical Upgrades

Description:

This project consisted of upgrading electrical distribution equipment at Substation A2A in Concourse C/D of Dulles International Airport. The scope of work included sawcutting & demolition of the AOA paving at Gate C-11, underground ductbank installation, drilled piers and structural steel to support a new bus duct, installation of concrete footers, plinth, & containment walls for a new exterior transformer, new self-contained AC units for inside the substation, and state-of-the-art electrical distribution equipment to replace the old. A unique challenge from this project was that nearly all locations of the underground ductbank, concrete footers, & drilled piers needed to be adjusted due to existing utilities beneath the pavement. Patner successfully coordinated the revised locations around aircraft fuel, power, & sanitary lines by use of utility scanning and hydro-excavation.
